To Anyone Stopping By...

This blog is not dead, but rather on a hiatus. When that hiatus will end, who knows. I'm currently a sophomore at my high school and part of me thinks I won't post again until I graduate because it isn't getting any less hectic! However, have faith, I still love the birds and will try to make time for the blog. :)

Beautiful Photography by my Mommy, and a quick story about foxes

The above photos courtesy of my mother, Susan Seabrook

While walking the dogs a couple days ago, I passed by two foxes. They seemed young. The thing is, when I walked by them they made no notice of me or my dogs! They were in this wooded area about 5 or so feet away from the sidewalk I was on and they payed no attention to me.  After watching them for a good 10 minutes, I even cleared my throat and said, "Hello," softly to them and still nothing. Hmm. I just find it interesting. Maybe these foxes are just getting more and more comfortable with the people around here.

A "Blah" Post

I have nothing really to say, but as you can see, my last post was too long ago.
I'm EXCITEDDDD for this movie, here's the trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsD0NpFSADM
The song that plays in that trailer that starts at about :32 is one of my favorite songs "Us" by my favorite solo artist, Regina Spektor.
Zooey Deschanel is also a favorite actress of mine. This movie looks sooo cute, and I'm very excited for it.
Here's the teaser trailer, also worth watching:

Great song in the teaser trailer too; Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap.

Also, I plan to also go on a birding trip soon and blog about it. There are so many great birds out now.

The Weather Outside Ain't Frightful...it's Delightful!

Okay, so that was pretty bad. But true. Yay! Sorry for the lack of posts the last couple days but I had a surgery and a TON of homework, so it was hard to squeeze in. However, there will be lots of posting this weekend, so hang tight!

Red Fox Calling at Midnight

Hmm....does this post sound familiar?
Basically the exact same thing happened last night. And if you want some audio, click the 2nd link of this post. Bah. I've got a lot of Red Fox-calling at night-posts. :)

P.S. In that video (which doesn't belong to me, bee tee dubs), ignore the little clacking sound. That's not part of the fox scream; the guy was trying to call it over I guess?

Sunny Day On The Lake

Yesterday, it was unbelievably nice outside. The sun was shining brightly and the air was filled with the sweet songs of cardinals and sparrows. I had the urge to check out the lake. When I got there, I saw 2 turtles basking out on logs. I said to the bigger one, "Please don't go under water as soon as I take out my camera." What do you think he did as soon as I took out my camera?

(I'm assuming you've made the cognitive leap now)

So I had to settle for the smaller one. That's okay. Smaller turtles need loving too, right?

The more and more I look at these photos the more I think a new, better camera would be a good investment. When I started this blog, my photos were horrible, but that was okay because I had no idea how to take photos. Now, I think I am using this camera to it's full potential. My Mom's camera is real nice and some photos from the Rhode Island trip were taken with that.
However, I want my own, one with great zoom and one that every picture comes out in full quality (as long as when I take the photo the camera is in focus.) Anyway, enough with my rambling, have some photos of cute Mallards I saw at the lake!

Cute! I love these little ducks. And, of course, there were some geese hangin' out.
But I think the coolest part of yesterday was a Cooper's hawk just chillin'.

Anywho, today is also a nice day. :o)
One that promises homework(blech), a movie, and some bird-watching. Yay!

"Why are you always outside with binoculars? Spying on the neighbors, are we?!"

(Too bad when I took this photo she was actually looking at a bird...it's okay, she probably gets that from me all the time.)

Creek and Dead Animals on a Sunny Day, And some Geese on a Rainy Day

So today I thought I would take a little adventure down in the creek with my little brother tagging along. The sun was shining, the air was warm, and the American Robins were caroling cheerfully; they seemed to be encouraging me sweetly to come outside and soak in the fresh breeze and maybe get my feet a little wet  journeying through the creek. Once we got there, as we started to go upstream, we thought we heard people. There usually aren't people down here other than us, but today was a nice sunny day so we weren't too surprised. It seemed to be 2 families with little kids. As we were walking along we heard a little girl scream, "EW YOU STEPPED ON IT!" I wondered what it was that they stepped on. Trevor said to me, "Someone probably stepped on a dead raccoon." He was totally just throwing it out there. Buuuuut.....

As the group passed by us, one by one a little girl would inform us something, with the details changing a bit each time. The first girl said, "Just to warn you, there are 3 dead raccoons up there." "Thank you," I said, and then turned to Trevor eagerly. About a minute later, another little girl walked by and said,"Just to warn you there are 2 dead raccoons up there." Hmm. Now there are only 2. A couple seconds later, a third little girl splashed by and said,"Just to warn you, there is a dead raccoon and a dead fox up there." Wait, so now one of them is a fox?! Trev and I exchanged looks. This is getting more exciting. "Thank you, We'll check 'em out," I said, winking. I think she was slightly confused and maybe even a little creeped out as to why we were excited about this.

As we started to get further upstream where we had heard them screaming I said, "Listen Trevor. Someone stepped on one of these raccoons. That means that we are going to have to be really careful and keep an eye out for them so we don't step on them." Great plan. Now what does it say about my "great birdwatcher's observation skills" if it didn't work quite as well as we planned?

Right as Trevor stepped directly over this guy, I said, "Whoa Trevor! There's one of them right there!" This spooked Trevor a bit, as he had stepped right over him (her maybe?) without noticing. If you look closely at the photo above, you can totally see the shoeprint where someone else did step on the raccoon. A little further along, I found the second one. I can see why someone might have mistaken this bugger for a fox, but if not anything else, the hand-like paws are a dead giveaway.

This picture is out of focus. Humph.
Now what I am wondering is how did these dudes die? And while we are on the subject of dead animals, here is a photo of a dead House Sparrow I found on the side of a road:
Always makes me a bit sad. :(

Anyway guys, I thought I would check out the lake and see what the geese have been up to.

They were doing a lot of preening!

And with that, I leave you guys to do some birding. Sorry this post has been a little rushed.
